When choosing a word, I spend some time reflecting on the previous year while setting new goals and aspirations for the upcoming year. Rather than creating specific resolutions, I choose a word that best embodies my vision for the new year. I really love this tradition because it's easy to recall your word throughout the year & focus (or refocus) on your goals. So without further ado, my 2018 word of the year is...
Here we are, another year come and gone and started again. Gosh-- Time, it really doesn't ever slow down does it? So, 2017, how ya doing?? I've brought an upper respiratory infection into this new year (ugh), so I didn't have my normal excitement/"clean slate" feeling that comes with each new year. But, I have been thinking about what I hope to achieve and work towards this upcoming year.
1. to hold someone in your arms as a way of expressing love or friendship.
2. to accept or support willingly and enthusiastically.
This year, I want to embrace:
For me, 2017 is all about the love. Life is way too short not to show the people you love that you cherish them. Hug them, spend time with them, make memories with them. This year, I'm loving harder, y'all.
LIFE & WHAT IS //
So much of happiness is accepting. Accepting situations and people for what & who they are. If we spend all our time fighting and questioning what is, we will never find happiness. I want to continue working on embracing my journey good & bad, trusting in God's plan for my life.
This year brings with it a lot of new changes and comfort zone breaking. Thing's I'll share with you as they come. I find myself feeling insecure and afraid, but in 2017 I'm choosing to welcome these changes, embrace them, and grow from them.
Life is one unpredictable, beautiful adventure, and this year I've decided to embrace every little bit of it!
DO you have a word of the year? What are your aspirations for 2017?
Well, we are officially in 2016 and I honestly feel SO good about it. I've been thinking a lot about what I want out of 2016 and decided to have a word focus to guide me throughout the upcoming year. I've seen several of these post floating around the blogosphere and decided to start this little tradition of my own.
Balance: having the right amount — not too much or too little — of any quality, which leads to harmony or evenness.

This year, I will seek balance:
IN MY WORK //
Blush + Soul sort of came about because of my need for balance. Balancing my superficial love with things that feed my soul. No longer being solely focused on beauty and makeup, but topics that have depth and open the mind & heart. It was honestly very important for my sanity and well-being.
IN MY HEALTH //
I have always struggled with going to the gym and remaining consistent in my workouts, much less eating healthy. This year I'm determined to find a happy balance of exercise and healthy eating without feeling like I'm depriving myself. Just like the saying goes, everything in moderation right? Plus, I just want to feel good!
IN MY LIFE //
Balancing my emotions, my goals, my heart, & my social life. In so many aspects of our lives balance is key for success and happiness. This year I plan to live out this word that truly inspired Blush + Soul from the beginning and will become a word I look to throughout this year as a sort of daily mantra to live by.
Not too little, and not too much...it's all about balance, y'all.
